Service Description
This training will provide an overview of Body Dysmorphic Disorder, which is characterized by persistent and distressing preoccupation with perceived flaws in one’s appearance. Training participants will learn how to recognize possible BDD symptoms in clients, understand how it may impact one’s functioning, and explore the common treatment paths for anyone dealing with BDD. Training objectives: 1. Define BDD according to the DSM criteria 2. Identify the symptoms, the impact on functioning, and differences from other disorders. 3. Explore frontline treatments that clinicians can recommend and utilize. Bio of presenter: Rebecca Roberts, LCPC, is the Chief Operations Officer, supervisor, and psychotherapist for AMK Counseling in Chicago, IL. Her experience includes helping clients across the lifespan with anxiety, life transitions, trauma, OCD, Body-focused repetitive behaviors, race and oppression-based stress, and other stressor-related concerns. Rebecca is trained in Exposure and Response Prevention for OCD and Supportive Parenting for Childhood Anxious Emotions. She also holds a Level II Certification in Trauma treatment. She has led professional workshops on mental health for partners in the Chicago community and serves as a BTTI faculty member for the IOCDF as well as a Task Force Member of the IOCDF DEI Action Council. AMK Counseling has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7277. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. AMK Counseling is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
